Josef Achrer: The Quest For Tranquil Space

12. 6. – 7. 8. 2022

American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC
His Excellency Hynek Kmoníček, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States of America
a Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář Prague

cordially invite you to the official opening of the exhibition on Saturday, 11 June from 6 to 9 pm

We look forward to meeting you!

"I find it reassuring that Achrer, as the visual poet of what he has christened “the new infomanic world,” should be a painter and the maker of photograms rather than a manipulator of digital information. He at once declaims the arrival of Dataism and subverts it. The dynamic binary world of data flow is replaced by the artist’s static, often three-dimensional canvases. The modern technology of imaging is embraced and then succeeded by a desire for tranquility, the space where the material and spiritual meet beyond the canvas. This is a necessary contradiction for today.
On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, and governance of the American University, it is my pleasure to welcome the visionary artist Josef Achrer to our museum."
