Zdeněk Sklenář’s China

This set of materials was compiled in conjunction with the eponymous retrospective exhibition held at the National Gallery of China in Beijing from 4 to 22 April 2009. To accompany the exhibition, Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář published a unique dual-language book – The Songs of Ancient China – and later also Martin Dostál’s documentary film entitled Zdeněk Sklenářs China.

Zdeněk Sklenář Songs of Ancient China: Twenty-six-page brochure containing reproductions of Sklenář’s illustrations for the book of ancient Chinese poetry translated by Bohimil Mathesius (Odeon Publishers, 1967).
Zdeněk Sklenář The Monkey King: Eighteen-page brochure containing reproductions of selected works from what was Sklenář’s most extensive series of illustrations (State Children’s Literature Publishing House, 1961).
Zdeněk Sklenář: Fourteen-page concertina format book containing Zdeněk Sklenář’s bibliography, Martin Dostál’s interview with Professor Fan Di’an, text written by the gallerist Zdeněk Sklenář, and a list of artworks.
