This highly readable monograph by Pavla Pečinková, a leading expert when it comes to Josef Čapek’s art, tracks the individual phases of his creative works, placing them within the context of each relevant time period, and emphasising the continuity and links between all of the fields to which Čapek devoted his time. It includes 120 colour reproductions, documentary photographs, and quotes from Čapek's texts.
The catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition of the artist’s work held from 7 October 2009 to 17 January 2010 at the Prague Castle Riding School, and from 3 March to 30 May 2010 at the East Bohemian Gallery in Pardubice. The Josef Čapek Exhibition presented the artist’s oeuvre in an extraordinary broad and comprehensive way. In addition to 500 oil paintings and drawings, it included examples of his prints, illustrations, caricatures, book covers, and scenographic designs.
